Hey everyone,

I have a beautiful male red rainbowfish. Now I dont have sick fish often..so I would appreciate your thoughts on it.

He either needs more slim coat or he has a coating of fungus.  He looks just a little milky if you closely look at him the right way.  Another thing that he is doing is slightly curving..I would imagin that if he is irritated or uncomfortable externally that he is doing that.  He's not having alot of trouble keeping balance or getting to where he wants to.  And most importantly he is still eating frozen foods and is still very alert.

So what I did tonight when I noticed this was do a water change in both my tanks. He is usually in the 75gal with the south american cichlids..but since I wanted to treat him right away..I put him in the 20gal with my smaller rainbows and tetras cuz I noticed one of the others has a bit of pop-eye on one side.  So this way I have less water to treat.  I only have some Furan-2 powder left.  So that is what I am using.  I put 4 teaspoons in and removed carbon pad.  He is fine for now but Im hoping to cure him.

I live in Eganville..so the closest fish store is in Pembroke or Renfrew.  I go to Rick's Hobbies and Aquaria. I need to get out there very soon.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

I am not the most experienced person here, but when I had an angel with a flat, greyish sheen, only visible with some lights, I used a 10G hospital tank, and did double dosing:

Furan+ in case of bacterial issue, and also fungus cure, in case it was fungal.  Daily water changes in that tank.  I find these things so impossible to diagnose with my limited experience and the not always great internet photo quality...

With that treatment, the greyness disappeared very quickly (2 days, I think?) but I continued the full course as recommended on the bottle.

Hope your fish continue to be fine... good appetite is a good sign.  :)

I only had 2 days of Furan 2 left.  I dont have any other medicines now.  Its been 2 days and the scales seem to look more normal..but he still bent..his spine/body just stuck in a curve shape. Whatever happen this past week..it happened fast cuz I remember being so happy seeing him more colorful than usual after feeding frozen mysis shrimp.  Before I knew it he was swimming kinda funny the next day or so..he dont have dropsy or swim bladder..just somehow got crippled as it appears.
Ive had him for a few years. So Im bummed out. I know about water chemistry..so Im clueless on why this happened..even with a UV sterilizer turbo twist.
One thing I must say though is I have a few gold barbs left in there amongst the cichlids..and off and on one barb would get these red sores on it but then it would heal up.  I recently put one down last week that looked really bad..to try to protect the rest of the fish.

Another thing is I have a adult black angel male. Ive had him since 2009.  His mate died in the summer this year..and he slowly just became a mope. He doesnt appear to be sick..and he slowly became uninterested in any type of food he usually would take.  I believe he is depressed..he used to spawn quite a few times..which is how I know he is male.
I think he needs to be with other angelfish. He in a 75gal with live plants and sand..but he not happy.  Please PM me if you like to help.  :(

Thanks for the reply and reading.
