I was wondering....

Hi

I have in my tank a cherry shrimp that is completly see through like a ghost shrimps. No color at all. I was wondering if that is because it's a very very very low grade or if it's one of those genetic suprise we get time to time. I'm just curious.

Cherry Shrimps are a colour strain thats been bred out from the original Neocaridina heteropoda. There are many colour variations that have been bred out but the original 'Wild' ones are clear. Google should show you some pics.

Do you have any other shrimp beside the red in the tank? Also how long did have your cherry? They do sometime revert back to there wild color which is pretty much no color. But your talking years down the road without introducing new blood into the group.

I have rock shrimps and Amano shrimps with them and for what I know they don't breed together.

This little one I belive it's came with the cherry shrimps I order. I had noticed a clear one, but I though it's was because it's was very young but now it's a nice almost adult shrimp. I bought all my shrimps in the pass 6 months from different source so I have different gene pool. At that time, I didn't know anything about grade. I know I have 5 that are lower grade and are not as red then the other, but still red. And I know about bringing fresh blood in the tank. I'm about to get the first batch of babies very soon (Cherry & blue pearl shrimps)

So if it's came back to it's natural color, should I remove it from the tank or leave it there ?

If you want to keep your colors up, remove the uglies.  I keep a tank dedicated to random colored shrimp so I have a place to put them.

Nooooooooo ! Not a other tank for the ungly little buck ! lol Ok, I have a breeding net in my 65 gallons that I didn't remove yet because my rock shrimps love to climb on it & I felt bad to remove it, so I guess it's will have a double purpose now

No need to move, just do what we have all done in this hobby, remove some
furniture.

i had this before when i bought new shrimp, few months later when it settled in my tank it turned blue.
