Hi, we have a 55 tank set up in an insulated; unheated garage with koi and goldfish.    Once it gets into the minus twenties, will a heater or heaters work or will it crack glass/tank/heater?
thanks

Good question. You may want to consider getting a feeding trough as they will serve you well in a garage. Then you don't have to worry so much. Send Richard an email. He's a sponsor who deals with ponds etc and might be able to answer your question better than us.

I've never done this, but my father in-law has. It's doable, it helps to insulate the tank from the sides and bottom with some insulation foam. Also a glass lid will help with evaporation and keeping the water warm. I'd also suggest keeping the tank away from any chemicals or tools that can damage the tank or kill the fish, and keep the tank away from your car and any high traffic area. And two heaters are better than one.

Hey Julie  :)  if you put enough heaters it should work, 2-3 heaters and good flow all around is the key.
