Cleaning new plants

Hi,

Are there any off the shelf products I can use to soak new plants before adding them to my freshwater aquarium? I would like to ensure I don't introduce any unwanted creatures such as snails or limpets. I found some information online about Potassium Permanganate and bleach, but I have no idea where to get Potassium Permanganate and bleach does not seem very safe for plants.

It seems like every time I add a new plant, I end up with snails.    :(

Thanks,
George

A diluted 5% bleach solution safe for most plants depending on how long you dip them. I wouldn't dip them no more than 30 sec to a minute, and if you have sensitive plants, a diluted peroxide solution is a good idea.

Do I just use regular bleach like Clorox? I'll give that a try.

Thanks!

We find "Plant wash" works well and

"No Planaria", which I find is doing a good job of eradicating all pests in our established shrimp tanks. I figure if it killed snails and planaria, while not disturbing my blue bolts and blue diamonds breeding... that's pretty good.

Clorox works, any non-scented, pure bleach will work. I use the no-name stuff.

We are stocking "Plant wash" at critter jungle now.

We also stock "No Planaria", which I find is doing a good job of eradicating all pests in our established shrimp tanks. I figure if it killed snails and planaria, while not disturbing my blue bolts and blue diamonds breeding... that's pretty good.

I'm curious about "Plant Wash". I'll have to check it out. I forgot about No-Planaria as well.  :)

Thanks!

That makes it easier because I can pick some up anywhere.

Thanks!
