LFS Not Carrying Cichlids That I'm Looking For?

Hello Everyone,

I came across many Malawi cichlid keepers here on OVAS, and Im truely impressed by there stock. They told me most of the exotic cichlids they buy are from Ohio. I was wondering, why dont LFS carry any exotic cichlid?s I don't want to do special orders in Big Al's, any suggestions where I could get some? What I mean by exotic, is cichlids that we don't see too much often in LFS.

It's all about demand.   5 years ago cichlids were very popular in Ottawa, now there are not that many people that keep them so the local stores stop bringing them in.  If you want good quality rare cichlids you're going to have to go to Toronto, or Montreal,  and be prepared to pay market price for them.

I realize that the popularity of cichlids are actually increasing here in Ottawa again. For example, a lot of people who I know, and who first started in the cichlid hobby bought a cichlid because theres always that cichlid that Big Al's had that you often don't see which is beautiful and unique. And I wish that people would know how many species there are that are not common in LFS............. Such as the Placidochromis Tanzania
