I can't seem to find a definitive answer to this, how can you tell the difference between the tiger pleco (L002) and the clown pleco (L104) ??  I know all these plecos are very similar, but is there a special way to differentiate?

It can be pretty tricky to ID plecos if you don't know their origin. You can try if these descriptions help:

http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=735
http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=734

Otherwise you can try these. I find them a bit more detailed, but you may have to use the Google translator:

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I found the planet.catfish links already, very good, but I didn't find the EU ones.  Thank you, I still am not sure, what I have, and LOL, google did a horrible job at translating for me, but thanks for the links.  Looks Like you can tell by the teeth?  Or ventral image?  Not sure about papilla.

Sometime its very hard to tell between different type of pleco. Your best bet is to take a picture of the  pleco from different angle and posted up on pleco site like canadapleco or planetcatfish and ask an expert to help you identified it.
