Coarse filter media

I need coarse filter media for two large Eheim filters, and heard someone at the last Plantaholics meeting say that there is a source locally, but I don't remember who. Can anyone remember or does anyone know where to get it? To buy the Eheim fit-to-size pads are expensive and I don't thinks its really necessary. Anyone know?

Just wondering if you found a solution to your problem.  I have two small/medium Eheim so I am curious.
