I'm looking to build a stand for multiple tanks. I've looked at the DIY stands and they all seem geared for larger tanks. I'm doing small tanks at the moment and the biggest one is 10G. Does anyone know of a plan that can be modular? I was hoping to put the 10 in the middle of my 5.5's! I also have 2 more 10's that i will set up before summers end, hence why i was thinking modular. or if anyone has any thoughts on something to try? Any help is greatly appreciated!

There is always the option of shelving from home depot as a base. I know a fair number of people us similar when they have lots of tanks in one room. While you said a DIY, I have found that a lot of DIY versions for smaller tanks cost more than this in materials alone. There are a few variations on a theme at the depot.

The link does not seem to work in chrome ATM but does with firefox.

Thanks for that Link Jonathan. I was thinking something less industrial looking as they will be set up in my living room. If i can't come to a more wife friendly solution, then this may work!

I would just build the stand for a large tank regardless.  Eventually, you may want to get yourself a big tank.  If so, then you will have the stand ready.

If you put your two 5.5 gallons (16" wide) and 10 gallon (20" wide) side by side, it comes up to 52".  A 90 gallon is 48" so you will have about two inches extra on each side.  If you place all five of your tanks width wise, the 52" stand will be able to long enough to hold of them on top.  Then you can start another row of tanks underneath.  ;D

This is what I had for awhile.  I made a stand for my 30 gallon goldfish tank but made it to fit a 75 gallon that I knew that I would eventually get.

Ok, now this was what i was after! I am planning to skin the stand. Maybe should have stated that! So i guess i should just find a suitable plan and then just brace it where i need it for the tanks i have? Is that a bare top or is there plywood or something under the tank?

In the pic, it's a bare top.  When I had the 30 gallon, I just used a piece of styrofoam.  With my 75 gallon now, I have a 1/2" piece of plywood underneath.

I see! Thanks for all the responses.

This is the design I like the most.  I have built a few using this method and swear by it
