Lamprologus Ocellatus Gold

Wanted to share this.
I picked up a bunch of these Shell dwellers in Nov. 2015 and they just bred.
They have a lot of character and are fun to watch.
They are about 1".  Still have problems sexing them but must have a pair as I have fry.
Totally unexpected as I thought they were still young.
I think it is a female guarding shell and fry.

I have them in a 25 gal. with cichlid sand and lots of shells.
I have not checked the water but I add mixture of salts to harden the water.
I had some small synodontis petricola with them but when I noticed the fry, I moved them out.
The first picture, the female dug under the shell to position it, then it pushed sand to cover everything but the hole.

Nice shellies P.
Shellies are a great tanganyikan fish to keep in their many variations and have some very interesting behavior. And as you point out they can be kept in small tanks.

Hi Peter!

Theses are the shellies you told me about at the meeting. They are very cute!
I've look them up and they are a good match for my 4th tank stocking.
You said you got them in november, was it anywhere around or when you went to Toronto?
I am wondering if we get any shell dwellers around, I can't remember seeing any in the stores.

Lost my fry.  Someone probably eat them.
I heard sometimes it takes a couple of batches to get established.

I think he said he could put in a special order.
