One of the most rewarding occurrences when keeping plants in the aquarium is when they flower.  I remember the first plant that flowered for me was Anubias barteri var. nana, it flowered underwater and resembled a peace lily flower. Later I flowered the same plant above water (or emerged), rooted into wet mud under high 90% humidity. Ultimately this got me more interested in plants. I remember Jungle Val flowering within days after replacing white bulbs with red/purple powerglo bulbs. When, over the course of 6 hours, flower stalks spiraled to the surface 24" up and revealed flowers; some of the fastest plant growth you can see. Changes in light spectrum/colour as well as photoperiod (short day vs. long day) are common triggers for flowering, but there can be other factors.
For plants that are difficult to identify, we must rely on flowers for the final positive ID.
If you haven't witnessed flowering at home, take a look at the plant collections at the LFS, a lot of plants are shipped with inflorescences.

I've included some more recent photos. Feel free to post your flower pics below :)

Amazing pictures. Here is my flowering tiger lotus. The tank is 90 gallons, so the steam is over 30 inches long to make it out the top.
