how would one raise the calcium content in ones tank to help stop snails from having their shells desintegrate?

I have heard of liquid calcium drops perhaps that would work anyone know I dont see why not!! Though im not sure where u can get either but perhaps worth looking into!!!

Cuttlebone sold for birds works a charm. Calcium Carbonate (sold as substrate for tanks) in a baggie in the filter will also work well.

I use Calcium Carbonate from the brewing stores (precipitated chalk).  It's very inexpensive.

Be warned, depending on your water chemistry, it can take a long time do dissolve.  I have low pH and co2 injection, so it's not much of an issue for me.

Like luvs said, if you can fit it in your filter, it'll help.

ahh interesting thanks, I had a customer with this problem and didn't see a product in the fish section that would help this issue..

Now this is purely a guess, but my wife had to increase her calcium levels within the past year and tried everything on the market, so I can report that there are several types of calcium tablets and chews in your local pharmacy, both flavoured and unflavoured,  that may be suitable for dissolving in the filter. I mention this on account of the possible increased ease of use and solubility. But...don't use the chocolate flavoured ones!

I'd be worried about calcium designed for human injestion having additional chemicals.

The stuff I get is either .99 or 1.99, and you get 50 grams of powder.  I'm sure that would be cheaper than anything made for human consumption.
