I just bought "Mermaid Super Sand" pool filter sand in a 50lb bag.
It says silica on the back which if I remember correctly is what i need. The sand though is much darker than I wanted.I had asked the associate at Mermaid if they sold any different kinds and he said "no".
I see in various aquariums a much lighter coloured sand like the sand used in the shark tank at Big Als on Innes or at Ottawa area beaches.Where can I find this (besides swiping it from a beach:) ?
Anyone else have a 75G or bigger aquarium on a second floor of a house?I have mine on an outside wall but I'm still iffy about the 900lb total weight.

I have used the pool filter sand from Mermaid in my 150 african tank.  It looks dark when you scoop it out, but once it's in the tank and with the lights on, it's actually a light/medium tan.

My 150 is in the basement.

I have also used PFS in my tanks, I still have it in my 55 gallon tank.  I MUCH prefer nice fine crushed coral for both esthetics and buffering for my tanks.

I have my 100 gallon my main floor above the basement without issue and at one time had both the 100 and 55 gallon tanks side by side on the main floor without concern.
