Can you clearify: I know F1, F2, etc, but what you mean by "G1' and "G2"?

G1 and G2 is the same thing as F1 and F2.

well to the advanced linebreeder there are some slight differences but to the average fishbreeder like us it's really the same thing.

readers digest version- if you are breeding wild fish and you know where they came from it's more accurate to refer to the fry as G1.  if you are just breeding fish and have no idea what their pedigree is you can't call them G1.    the rest of it gets confusing.

Thanks!

I always hate the abbreviations, as sometimes the same abbreviation has a number of meanings...

G stands for Generation
F stands for Fillial  (which is latin for Offspring)
