When is it considered hig light? I just built a DIY hood for my 5.5, and it has two spiral compact flourecents, 9watt each. Is this low. med or high light? I'v heard that the WPG rule breaks down for small tanks.

Other question, my 120 has 2 175 watt metal haildes, and I am trying to grow gloss but it grows up what can I do about this?

BigDaddy

It would be low light.

Give you an example... I have 36 watts over my 10 gallon.. and it acts lke a medium light tank.. no CO2 required.. but with ferts I get good growth

Seanc

ok good, I didn't want high light on it, to much work.what about the other question?

BigDaddy

If your glosso is growing up instead of out.. you need more intense light.

Glosso will naturally "double up" on itself... but if new shoots are always on top, and you have no side shoots, then its because not enough light is getting to them

Glosso is a high light plant.  Your 120 is a tall tank.  Most likely... even though you are using 175 MH... just not enough of it is getting to the bottom of the tank.

Planted people treat glosso the same way SW freaks treat corals... it won't look its best until you get better lighting

well I think I Will try it for anouther 2 weeks, then if it doesn;t smarten up, and decide that 2 175MH lights is enough, I'm kicking it out.
