Anubias from submersed to emersed

Can anyone offer some suggestions on the best way to try to get an anubias to go from growing completely submersed to emersed. I have a 2.5 gallon tank with a glass lid to use for this project. My plan was to add a layer of gravel for the roots to go into (letting the rhizome stay above gravel level of course) and then adding some water from one of my aquariums which I would also dose with houseplant fertilizer (no fish will be in this tank although the plant may eventually be transferred to a tank with fish).  The water would be added until it was level with the rhizome (should be 2.5cm or so). Any obvious problems with this? Does it stand a chance of working. Comments are welcome.

Well... first off you need circulation of some kind.  In stagnant water, the rhizome will rot.  If you check any hydroponics setup, you'll see they have "fert trays" that are being turned over by a pump of some kind

Secondly, its usually a good idea to have a heavy duty airstone running.  It will keep the moisture levels high in the tank so the newly forming leaves don't dry out.

Thanks for the tips guys. Now I really feel bad about passing up those air pump repair kits at the auction.

Olive oil rubbed gently should help with cracked sacs, or baby powder on the rubber before it does crack.  The oil doesn't fix it, just extends the life a little.  The bubbler will cause a lot of water to evaporate from that little 2.5 gallon tank...

Thanks man. I checked inside the pump and I think it has some water get inside of it. Right now I'm getting no airflow and I'm not sure it can be fixed after all. No matter, I'll just use the pump for my QT tank. I'm also counting on a lot of evaporation so that I can maintain a humid environment in the tank.

I wouls like to see it once it gets setled, I hear that they grow faster, and produce flowers more readely. If this works out for you, i would sujest you try some crypts, they can have some nice flowers.

If I remember I'll post a report in a month or so.
