Throw in some puffer LOL...man I got my new puffers like 24 hours ago and my tank was full of common snails now they are almost completely gone!!!

Troy

A few Clown loachs will get rid of Trumpet Snails

Shannon

I have a cichlid tank though.  Does this matter?? I don't have this problem right now I was just preparing for the future I guess.Just in case.  Thanks  Those puffers are cute though.  What exactly is brackish water?

Pisidan

Brackish is like 50% saltwater  50% fresh water approx im not sure the exact calculations!!

artw

hmm I should put some puffers or some clown loaches in my 65
shannon you prolly got your MTS from me (I have them in my 65)

Shannon

No, I got these snail things from Ashley on Sunday.  I haven't put them in the tank yet because there is some kind of parasite in the water.  It looks like small thin hair like wiggly worms.  So I'm afraid to put them in the tank. And I'm not sure what I'm doing with them. Why do you have them in your 65?? Oh ya by the way your Chewere have stop fighting I put some bossier fish in that tank with them and that set them straight.

tigerize

Yes I have MTS. And Shannon those are not parasites. They are bacteria. They also are a good food source for tiny fry.

dpatte

bacteria are not wiggly worms. In fact i doubt any bacteria are visible without a microscope.

I have occasionally seen 'wiggle worms' in some tanks and i havent the slightest idea what they are - though, despite looking quite repulsive - i believe they are quite harmless to the fish.

luvfishies

Those wiggly worms are usually from overfeeding, and are totally harmless.

MTS are a good thing to have, as well.

dpatte nailed it, bacteria are NOT visible to the naked eye. If we can see it, it's NOT bacteria.

I wouldn't add puffers to a cichlid tank, be it African or New World cichlids. Definately NOT a good combo at all. Most puffers  should have a species tank, and some require totally different water than FW fish do.

Shannon

I believe these wiggly worms might be called Planeria or Nematodes.  I think it maybe Nematodes but the picture on line wasn't very helpful.  It said they are probably harnless to the fish and that it is from  overfeading and poor maintenance.

dpatte

the plenaria i have seen (which ARE harmless) are like slugs in that they stick to the glass and slide along it.

I believe nematodes is a generic word for a kind of worm (don't quote me on that) and some are harmless and some aren't. All are gross though.

tigerize

Well whatever they are they are only in the cichlid tank and I do catch them to feed them to my fry. So they aren't harmful.
