So I'm assuming gravel is the best way to go...

sand has a tendency to go Compact and cause anaerobic pockets which can kill fish nad plants..

to bad tho i really liked the look of sandy bottom with plants..

but 2-3" sand base is a breeding ground for anaerobic Bacteria..

any comments on this?

I had sand it is not too bad the thing is it is work like anything you have to shift the sand every so often to prevent gases from forming...I just use pool filter sand made from silica it doesnt mold or cause gases and if you look hard enough there r some that look like natural sand..Good Luck

ok i've been reading on sands and actually got some material sheets from playsand companies..

All playsand companies (bomix,King,Southdown,Magic Sand, etc.) all stated that there playsand is toxic when water is added to it.. also all the sheets say the most are water soluable..

whats up with that? no safe for kids when wet?

also it talks about wearing a mask and long clothing while handling the sand??? Does anyone see anything wrong with that??

This is called capitalism. Think the kids or most parents bother reading any of the materials - no. But by publishing this companies are protected from lawsuits.
