is local slate safe?

I was wondering if local slate (rock) was safe to use..  i want to make a cave for the corner of my new tank for fish to use.. maybe even one at each end surrounded by plants..

and were can i get it cheap..

it's safe and you can get it for free by the Brittania Bay water treatment plant.

its a big hill full of slate. its hard to miss
there is parking right beside it

I will included a more detailed Map I get my slate from the side of the Hills If you go up the path beside the Highlighted in green P for parking and follow the outlined in red path on the Hill there is tons on the right side and left further down!!
