i even got a coupon for it.. with my tank purchase.. i just read coupon and its arriving in stores end of september!!!

sorry about that..

artw

still.
Biospira basically renders fishless cycling obsolete
I have read many accounts of tests etc done on this. there is a long drawn out debate on Fish Geeks about it.  and probably others including rec.aquaria.

but its darn expensive and you only technically need to use it on your first tank... I have 25 tanks full of biospira ;)

but I still wanna try it just to test it for myself. lol

I haven't used BioSpira; but have heard good things about it.

Marineland says they have isolated the nitrifying bacteria that convert ammonia into nitrite and nitrite into nitrate.  They keep it refrigerated and sell it as Bio Spira

The initial supply sold much quicker than Marineland anticpated, so it was not available for a while.  Plus, I was sure it was initially unavailable in Canada.

Essentially, as was already mentioned, Bio Spira is a good thing for the impulse buyer who just HAS to setup his/her first tank right away.

For those of us with access to seeded media... its a moot point.

BioSpira rocks! It's about time we can get here in Canada!

But, as Art says, once you have a cycled tank, you have MANY cycled tanks, as all you need to do is raid media/decor from your cycled tank(s).

BioSpira is wonderful for the first tank, but I do have concerns that this will hinder the new fishkeepers' knowledge of the Nitrogen Cycle.
