I have a Marmalade Cat male who has been listless and hiding for the last 2 days, and last night I discovered one of his eyes seems to be bulging from his head quite noticably.

What's a good treatment for this?

Well according to Wikipedia, the treatment for Popeye is as follows:

The reference to spinach comes from the publication of a study which, because of a misprint, attributed to spinach ten times its actual iron content. The error was discovered in the 1930s but not widely publicised until T.J. Hamblin wrote about it in the British Medical Journal in 1981.

You see, I totally knew someone was going to come up with that.  :)

It's hard to get a serious answer around here sometimes  :-\

BigDaddy

Get some maracyn II

Popeye is bacterial... gram negative... maracyn II will deal with it.  You can also try maracyn plus, which has two broad spectrum antibacterial agents...

Medicated food made with MetroMeds.

Sorry, I've not had to deal with much more than ick before; is Maricyn II a liquid or a pill?  Could I soak food in it?

Make artw babysit the fish until it is better.

I started with a salt dose / temp increase on the tank, as that's usually how I've started with any illness that pops up.  Tonight he's eating again and is swimming around, so I'm hoping he's on the mend.  I hope so, he's pretty special to me.

One of my piranha's got pop eye when it was younger and i treated it with maracyn as BD suggested. It took several treatments, but it did go away. I found salt and raising the temp didnt help, although mine never did stop eating.

the prob. with using salt is that the eyes of the fish bulge outwards from an increased amount of fluid in the body (ie, infection).  Treating with salt can actually make the fish retain MORE fluids.  Epsom salts would be a better option, and they are usually dosed at (I believe) 1/8 tsp for 5 gallons.

I've re-instigated my African Water treatment, which uses 1 tablespoon of epsom salt per 5 gallons, and he's definetly improved.  The affected eye is almost back to normal now.
