You can sometimes find good stock in the stores. It's a matter of really paying attention and inquiring as to when they get them in and how they treat their fish that they get in store.

However... You will likely end up paying more for LFS stock than you would from private breeders. Though in a limited market like Ottawa you'll get more selection and variety.

But you also have to determine what you want.
i mean you want fancy discus or wild (dont get me wrong , fancy is not a bad term).

most of breeder (specially in your area) will provide you fancy discus already aclimatate to the water of your area.
the wild discus is a bit more challenging sometime, but when i receive wild discus , i usually dont have to float bag or anything, just put them in a well stable/mature tank and they will do well, i will never do that with a tank raise discus.
