Recipies for Home Brew Planting Substrate

I typically use Ecocomplete or occasionally Florite in my planted tanks with good results.  I'm about to set up another system (125g, 3.2 W/gal, CO2 injection) and thought that this might be an opportunity to mix up my own planting medium.  I've read about people mixing their own and was wondering whether anyone out there has done it using  various combos of gravel, sand, laterite, vermiculite, fullers earth etc?  Any secret recipes people want to divulge?
