Can some recommend a good filter.

None, as I mentioned they are stackable, and of course, they can be strewn all over the place as well, we currently run a 70 gallon grow out that has four in it, of the #IV variety, they come in different sizes, and there is always something to chew on for the little ones. they are rated at 80 gallons each, but with the low flow, I over filter with them, a very good alternative to loads of electrical cables all over the place.

Okay.. all of us moderators should probably stop jackin' this thread and get it back on to the original question again  ;D

fair enough, a question for you then busdriver, what about your canister setup were you not impressed with? I switched out from hob's and UGF's quite some years ago to canisters and sponges as the biological filtration was always upset with the cleaning process. So I'm curious as to how they are displeasing you. Perhaps you could elaborate.

Ummmm... rinse the sponges in used tank water maybe?  Sponges are excellent biofilters.  Low water flow and lots of surface area.

Figured. When I heard the word 'rinse' it can mean two things though. (Old tank water and under the tap.) So I was more or less asking the question so that someone would answer it with the correct info. Maybe I've been leading too many seminar discussions as of late? Promoting discussion and such.

What I didn't like about the canister is, it was too small for the 75 gal. it was an xp1.
Also, there wasn't much room to put media IMHO.
I have an xp3 on the 150 and I like it fine.
That's why I asked the question about the new Fluval. When I can afford one I'm going to put the xp3 on the 75 and the Fluval on the 150.
But I had also heard not to put too much current in the tank as discus don't seem to like it.

That sounds like a good plan, money notwithstanding. (the stuff is always in the way)
As for water current and Discus, they are more tolerant than they're given credit for, they handle higher current well enough.

Have you seen the new Xp 4? Awsome flow rate and a fourth media box. The xp 1 was way underrated for a 75. No wonder you were not happy with it. I use one as primary biological on my 55 but have to use a hob as secondary to keep the water clear.

To all the moderators jacking, keep doing it, I'm learning things.
The only thing though, I wish you would add pictures so I could see what you are talking about. I'm talking about those hydro sponges.
