How big is your tank Dan?

It would be a good idea to quarantine all new arrivals before adding them with your Discus.

dandaman

Oh, my tank is a 35g hex(may be 30)
Thanks- but my question is do they get along?
thanks a lot!

Yes they should get along - just QT the Angels first.

QT stands for quarantine.
Keep the Angels in a separate tank for 4-6 weeks to make sure they are healthy and not carrying any illness which hasn't surfaced yet.

What kind of Discus did you get? :D

dandaman

Oh, i got some blue turquoise ones

I don't rec adding angels to discus in such a small tank.

BUT if you decide to do this, QT the angels, and treat them with Hex-a-Mit before adding them. Angels can carry a disease that doesn't bother them, but that discus are susceptible to. It would be a shame to lose your discus, wouldn't it?

Because of this reason, I've never risked my Disucs.
If you tank is 35g, then I really feel its too small for 2 adult discus and angels. If the discus are only juveniles, then they would be much happier in a group of 4+  (I think we;ve had this conversation before lol)

zapisto

35 g is really too small for a pair of discus PLUS angel

on top of that , i will avoid put any angel in discus tank before a sever QT.
and even that i will be terribly afraid.

dandaman

ok, then what type of fish would you recomend puting with my discus???
thanks

After a lot a research, there isnt much (I dont think anyway) besides cardinals, and maybe a pleco (but thats debatable).

zapisto

for the size of you tanks:

cardinalis
rummynose
apistos (quiete)
some other tetras
some cory who can support hi temp
etc.......

aidensmomma2000

I found with my juveniles, they thrived better at higher temps (say you keep you discus at 85-ish, closer to 90). Im not sure how many fish can tolerate those temps and be happy with the low ph?
So I just gave up and keep them alone.

I would like to put other in there though...

luvfishies

Lemon Tetras
Rummynose Tetras
Diamond Tetras
Cardinal Tetras
Some of the fancy plecos, but they tend to like current, which the discus don't like too well.

Blue Rams
Bolivian Rams
Apistogrammas

If you go with the Rams or Apistos, no more than ONE PAIR of ONE SPECIES. There just isn't enough "real estate" at the bottom of a 35g Hex to support more than ONE PAIR of dwarf cichlids, irregardless of already having discus in there.

aidensmomma, I keep angels with my discus, and the discus scrap with the angels all the time for their share of the food. BUT I did treat the angels for Hex and flagellates, just to be sure. Yes it can be done, in a LARGE tank, and with the proper precautions taken.
