I've got the rainbow fish bug - but only am looking for small rainbows for a species specific tank.

I know Celebes aren't true rainbows but they look pretty cool.  I'm also waiting to get some p.gertrudae.

I'm in no hurry - I'll get them eventually ;)

Anyone recall seeing the Celebes in local stores?

Thanks.

BA Innes has beautiful Celebes rainbows - they are brackish, though...

Biggest Celebes Ive ever seen, but like PFG said, they're brackish. I should have gertrudae by Thursday

Hey thanks for the heads up - not up for attempting brackish!

Let me know Matt  :) !!!!!

Woot, this may be what I'm looking for. I lost the couple of Indian Glassfish I had in my brackish tank and have been looking for something to add back to that community. I was going to get a Knight goby but after a feeding demonstration I had to pass.

Are the Celebes docile enough to leave my Bumblebee gobies alone?

Are there different types?

This is the profile I was sent and it says freshwater....

They remind me of the blue-eyes.

Thanks!

I too have read a few articles stating that they are a freshwater species.

They're classed as a freshwater fish, but around 7 tsp of salt / 10G's is recommended.  {Edit:  I'm relying too much on a bad memory of brackish parameters so I'm editing that part out rather than mislead anyone if I'm wrong.  End edit.} One of those confusing borderline fish that aren't truly brackish but are about as close as you can get without being classed as such.  I personally wouldn't try keeping them in straight freshwater and I don't believe they'd last long in it.

Gertrudae are stunners too - I raised some from Aquabid eggs a few years ago Obtained from a very nice lady named Loraine. You're lucky to have a local supplier  :).

I can't wait for them! Someone in australia emailed me a picture a couple months back and I never thought they'd come this way.  I love the small rainbows but the blue-eyes are my favourite.  No luck with the batch of furcatus I picked up - just one of six survived.  I hope the I have better luck with these gems.

I'm really glad I asked about the Celebes now too : )

The gertrudae are so cute :)  Here's a picture, and a link to info about other rainbowfish as well

Absolutely gorgeous fish, that is incredible plumage, it's enough to make you pine for the fjords. :)
