Iwaki Pumps Quiet or loud?

I broke a cardinal rule and went ahead and installed a previously enjoyed water pump. Its an Iwaki that came from a piece of equipment that had nothing to do with an aquarium.  I set it up to see what it would do and is it ever loud. It tends to quiet down a bit with a little back pressure but its still a little to loud. The loudness could be caused by many factors although I have nothing to compare a new Iwaki from and old Iwaki.

Have other folk here had any experience with the Iwaki brand?

Are they loud in general?

The plumbing is set up for this size 3/4" thread. I can re plumb however its easier to install a new pump of the same brand with the same sized inlet and discharge as the old pump.

Therefore I'm considering buying a different model better suited for flow. The Iwaki WMD30RLT http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=IK1233&idCartRow=4886653&isKit=0

What pumps do people use for their sump? Brands? Recommendations?

Its for a 65 gallon tall with 30 gallon sump with 6' head and a couple of 90 degree bends. The project is in the set up stage. I'll post some photos.

if your looking for a reall quiet external try the poseidon ps4. these pumps don't make any noise and area really small. they also have a nice kick to them. i currently have one on my 40 and don't think i'd change it with any other pump out there. only draw back is the heat they give off. if you go with this pump, i would recomment adding a small fan and pointing it directly at the pump to remove any of the excess heat it generates.

Thanks for the reply Laffy. The Posiden has good reviews. The Iwaki appears to be mixed in terms of noise so I decided not to get an Iwaki. What I have now is an ideal way to do water changes with some minor modification. Its over kill but it's already installed and I also drilled a 1 1/2" hole in the bottom of the sump tank.

I figure I'll use a submersible. Probably a Quiet One 4000 from Marinescape here in Ottawa. A n external would have been neat to use as the tank is located inside a wall (closet) in a cool basement.

Curious if others have used Iwaki pumps.

I'm using a Blue Line pump which is supposed to be essentially identical to the Iwaki (yellow instead of green).

I"m using the 40 HD and have found it to be very quiet (although not as quiet as the Quiet One pumps).
