Hi there,

I have a "thing" on my liverock.  It's about 0.5 cm across and is currently living in the shade under some liverock.  I've watched it at night waving it's "tentacles" around and was worried it might be aiptasia but this "thing" has little bobble things at the end of it's tentacles.

Sorry for the blurry pic...camera's having difficulty locking focus.

xenon

It might be a small anemone.

Hard to make out in the pic.

Alchemist

with those balls on the end though it's not aiptasia is it?

I think that you'll have to wait and see  :(

I had some very cool looking anemones show up in my tank until they got bigger and I identified them as aiptasia.

RoxyDog

hey, I had that exact thing!  it's not aiptasia.  it was down under a rock out of the light and when I turned the rock over so it had full light...well I think it died.  :(  lemme know if you figure it out?  :)  I have a hitchhiker pic to add later too...maybe we should make it a sticky?  lol

Life is too short to wake up with regrets.  So love the people who treat you right.  Forget about the one's who don't.  Believe everything happens for a reason.  If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands.  If it changes your life, let it.  Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

orange balled anemone...is the base orange? i have like 5 there small and don't like light get a flash light out at night and check it out mine haven't grown much but i read that they get very large in the wild...but i could be wrong thats what it looks like to me

Alchemist

right now it's kind of white/translucent...

Found it...I think it's a Caribbean Corallimorph...a pseudocorynactis species with white tips....they like dimly lit areas....pretty cool actually!

(Highly recommend the book "Marine Invertebrates: A Pocket Expert Guide by Ronald Shimek $21 from Chapters.ca if you have a chapters card)

Pay very close attention to it as it might be a majano anemone. They look like little bubble tip anemone's and trust me a very big PITA. They almost worse than aptasisa.

Tyler.L

it's not..mojano..i have them too and they're nonphotosynthetic anemones... i dunno how large they get but in the wild i've read they get over 14" across
