Bristle Worm Goop!

I tried to pick one of my bristle worms from a zoo rock but I wasnt able to get him out.  A second after he moved back into the rocks but his tail end came up and spit out this gross white gunk out of his a$$.  Is this normal and will it damage anything in my tank?
