Used gravel - good deal or death sentence?

I have some used gravel that I am considering using.  I do not know exactly how the fish were who were in it.  If I pour lots of boiling water over it and rinse it well should it be safe to use?  Is there some sort of commercial product (or home recipe) for making this usable or am I just borrowing trouble by trying to reuse it.  I hate throwing things out and I really cannot think of another use for it so would like to use if it will not put fish at risk.

Cheers,

Don't throw it out!  You can totally reuse gravel; people buy and sell it all the time.  MOST of my gravel is used.

You just need to rinse it in most cases; put it in a bucket (or several), and just run water through it until it's clear.  (This can take some time).

You can go to more extreme methods involving bleach, but I wouldn't recommend it as it would be difficult to guarantee all the bleach was neutralized.
