I was wondering if something else can used in place of the white filter pad for Eheim canister filters?  I have the Eheim 2028.  I was thinking of using those cotton like materials used for pillows or stuffed toys.  Would that work?

Yes most definitely, save your money, polyester pillow stuffing from Walmart will work pretty much the same, and be so much less expensive.  Make certain that the packaging doesn't say mildew resistant on it and it is 100% pure polyester, and it should be good.

Babblefish has great advice once again. I've been using the wal-mart pillow stuffing for a few months now. It works like a charm, plus you can't beat the price.
