So now my 20g(I think) is ok. Platys and danios (2 each) have been in there about 3-4 weeks now. Can't quite remember. And no one has died yet. Keeping fingers crossed.

So, can I go get more fish? Or do I have to wait longer to make sure the tank is ok?

First thing is to check the level of amonia, nitrite and nitrate and that will tell if if things are safe and if additional fish can be added.

If you didn't use used filter media.. the cycle can take up to 3 months depending on fish load.  As beowulf said... if you have consistently 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and measurable nitrate, then you could add fish.

The filter media was from when I first started the tank....at least 2.5 months ago now. Not sure about the water. I'm getting superstitious. Everytime I go to the fish store to get my water tested, my fish died soon after.
