I just bought a Fluval FX5 and am looking to fill the now empty media baskets.

I have tended to put floss in one of my baskets and guess I could do that in one of these two.

What is the most cost effective and bio effective, BioBalls, BioMax, etc?

Thanx,
Ross

I got some ceramic rings you can have to start off.

Plastic pot scrubbers. Just make sure the ones you get have no anti-fungal additive (most don't, especially if you get the cheapest you can find).

It's a little specialized, but I've always wanted to try Seachem Matrix biomedia.

It's relatively inexpensive and claims to be really good.

I agree.  This one had caught me eye last evening also due to it's price and description.

I would be willing to part with lets say40- 50 medium sized bioballs if you'd like them.

Thank you for the kind offer but I bought some Seachem Matrix from Pet Smart on Merivale last Friday, as well as pot scrubbers from the dollar store.  I bought $8 worth of pot scrubbers and used $1 worth  ;D
