I've been trying to ID this little guy and beleive it's a melanochromis and want to confirm it with the veterans here.

Thanks

This is almost not a melanochromis as they tend to have stripes that go the length of the body.I am thinking that it is probably  Pseudotropheus or Maylandia.
Maybe some one else can narrow it down for you.
Good luck

i looked on google and it looks like a Maylandia

I was looking at this http://cichlide38.free.fr/photo/melanochromis%20interruptus%20f.jpg and thought it was melanochromis but I didn't read the whole thing which would said melanochromis interruptus. Those pictures and links post also look like my fish too. Does anyone might know for sure?

PoisonJello

well if it is a Melanochromis interruptus it must be a female, so if you know how to sex the fish, if it's not male then you might be right  ;D

That's another question. How do I tell if it's a male or female? What do I look for?

looks like a yellow lab to me dose it have a black line on top of it's top fin. how old is it it mite not be there yet.

xenwarl

It doesn't have any black line. I have it for about 1years and it's about 4-5inches. I also have some yellow labs and they're about 1-2inches and already have the black lines. So I don't thinks it's a yellow lab.

mcman

no by 4"-5" it would have been there. :-\
