Another weird question for you guys:

We found out we (actually DH) was seriously overfeeding the mysis shrimp/phytoplankton.  Anyways we have a ton of amphipods - they are everywhere.  Since we've cut back on the mysis shrimp to a couple for the pompom crab only... will these amphipods be competition to the snails and scarlett hermits in the tank?  We have gotten rid of all the algae except for a kind on the substrate that we have been told is due to the overfeeding.  The snails and hermits don't touch that stuff.

What do you guys think?

Sounds like you are on the right track as an abundance of Amphipods and Copepods is a sign of a healthy tank

ps: I have found WWM to be an invaluable source for information when learning about these and other little critters...creepy as they are  :)

I would not worry when you have tons of pods, I would worry in the opposite case...
