I am looking to build a frag rack and want to use magnets to attach it.

Has anyone used these "Rare-Earth Magnets" from Lee Valley?

Any reccomendation on what size would be best for a 6"x4" frag rack on a 24g Aquapod tank which seems to have fairly thin glass?

Thanks In Advance,
Ross

I haven't made one, but you can see from the pics here that this guy uses ones that fit within the eggcrate, and fairly thick.  Considering how many you'll need and their total cost, I'd go with the biggest ones you could fit and not worry about it.

Lee Valley also has these "Rod Magnets".

If I could find a mag rack locally I would probably go that way but won't pay those shipping charges.

AquaKit.ca is now selling MagMounts at MarineScape

You could get a couple of them and then glue them to some egg crate.

Wow.  I wouldn't use those!  I think you can get an 8-10mm diameter magnet inside the eggcrate, so 8-10mm diam and 6-8mm thickness would be about the biggest.

The big trick for it would be finding the black eggcrate.  (Or I suppose you could dye the white stuff purple.)

Magnets you can get from scientific supply companies, and the resins are available through hobby suppliers.  Significant entry cost to get enough supplies to make a run, though I don't believe they would be at all difficult to make.

I have one that I knocked together using a magnet from a Koralia 1 that I *ahem* broke, but the white eggcrate just sticks out too much.

Just as an FYI, those magnets from Lee Valley are extremely powerful.

I would advise a lot of caution when handling them around glass - it would be VERY easy to chip the glass using these magnets (They will jump from your fingers when close to metal sources, and despite their small size)

When I'm cooking in the kitchen, friends will toss these little magnets across the room sticking them to the fridge - they chip the enamel off sometimes.
