Electric Blue Jack Dempsey not swallowing food

This started two days ago.  I recently added some other jacks to the tank with him and at first he was eating as normal.
He then became skiddish and intimidated and stopped eating, however he made an effort to eat by taking in every type of food offered (bloodworm, brine shrimp, beef heart, flakes, pellets) into his mouth, "chewing it" then spitting it out whole.
I moved him into his own tank last night and he is still doing the spitting out food thing, however is a lot more active and happy.
I want to solve this problem before it's too late.
