Well its "finally" done - or at least close enough where I can begin the setup of the tank.  I am going to get the color of the doors to more closely match the stand and then it will be 100% done - but I can do that while its cycling.

I ended up having to partially resand it because I applied the stain in too cold of temperatures.  Everything was warm when the stain went on, but then it cooled down to quick so the top coat was taking off the stain.  Once I got the core temp of the wood up to 70 degrees - 21 for those of you north of the border the stain was smooth and soaked in very nice.  The stand has 2 coats of gloss and 3 coats of semi gloss.  Each coat was lighted sanded and the last was buffed.  All in all, its not too bad.  I wish the finishing portion turned out better.  There are few imperfections in the finish, but you wont "see them on a flying horse at midnight" so I am happy.

Really nice job, that is going to look terrific once you have the tank set up.

Regarding what to use for an underlay, I have always put cork underneath my tanks.  Granted I haven't tried it with a tank this size but it has never done me wrong before.  I originally had a tank on some teak furniture when I was a kid and the cork underlay kept it from getting wet or stained for years.  Just thought I would pass that along.
