Safe aquarium rock?

I was just wondering if granite is a safe rock to use in my cichlid tank? , I understand that the sharp edges should be smoothed down or avoided. If anyone knows I'd like the info

granite is inert and should not change the ph or chemestry of the water. just sharp.
