I have a 35 gallon with 4 cichlids  and two kribs, plus two large sailfin plecos..... I had planned to one day dismantel the tank to cleanout the gravel.... seems the plecos decided to do some house cleaning on their own... I use to have gravel slopping from back to front , they moved everything to the front , the clay pot and the coconut shell are now sitting on the bottom glass .... the both plecos seem to be constantly visiting the inside of the pot....
not able to see inside the pot... hope they`re nesting !!!....John P..

Hello John P.
with the many years experience I have with fresh water fish,
I have never encounter plecos breeding.........I have had many kinds
Male and females, with no avail.........I too would love to see plecos breed one day........So keep hoping that when they go inside the coconut or pots they're getting busy. if you know what I mean.
But I do hope they breed and please keep us posted as when you will become a parent!!!!!!!!!!LOL

The smaller sailfin spends much time in the clay pot ,  upper side, difficult to see inside ,  and don`t want to disturb the fish... the bigger pleco beats-up any of the african cichlids  that come near to the pot... I`ll just have to wait and see what happens... John P

Hi John,
Just from my experience, but not with sailfins...
BN's male when he got a bunch of eggs under his conrol just "dissapeared" - I can see his tale in the cave but he never getting out during a day. Funny, the first time I was unaware that they got fry until I saw about 1/2" fry pl*cos sitting on the glass of my tank. The second time I was in the process of catching my kribs from this tank which I used as grow-up tank and as I didn't want them to hide I took out this plastic cave and was surprised when saw male with eggs which were about 1/4 in diameter! Like salmon! I didn't expect from them to breed in the kribs 10G grow up tank with about 50 1"-1.5" kribs and BTW he let kribs hide in the same cave. That's why I was surprised as I thought that he will not let them in. I took this cave and father was not happy, but he covered by himself these eggs and didn't go away. I put them into a bucket and after finished with my kribs put cave with him and eggs back. It was about 2 weeks ago. He still out of reach...
I wish you will get some small sailfins :)
