Based on comments from the past couple of years and in an attempt to improve our Giant Auction the following format changes are being introduced this year:

#1
The following items WILL NOT be accepted at this years Giant Auction

  • Used heaters
  • Used light bulbs
  • Plastic plants
  • Used/opened filter media
  • Used airline tubing

Our plan is to hopefully hold another garage sale event later on in the season so that these type of items can be sold.

#2
We are limiting the number of identical items that a single vendor can sell to 3 items, please group your items accordingly.  If you want to sell more than 3 bag of Val, you have the choice of either grouping your items to create 3 lots, removing the extra item(s) or donating the extra item(s) to OVAS.

#3
Previously during the bidding for items, if you hand went down you were not allowed to reenter the bidding.  We are now allowing people to enter the bidding for an item at any point.  The auctioneers will be doing a traditional 1-2-3 sold at the end of each item.  Due to this we are asking people to make sure that if they are bidding for an item they are clearly visible to the auctioneers.

Hopefully, this will increase the quality of items available, reduce the duration of the auction and encourage more bidding on items.

Great decision on change #1.  That's going to free up a lot of wasted time trying to auction off junk that nobody wants.

I disagree (somewhat) on change #2.  It's a good idea, but there are A LOT of people at the auction.  What's the harm in limiting the plants...which we always have an incredible abundance of...but not limiting the fish or inverts....which we don't have an abundance of.
