45 gal Dutch Aquarium System tank.  Being the overfilter kind of guy that I am, I've added a Fluval 304 to the already exceptional built-in biological filter.  Just finished week one of cycling.  Can't wait to stock it and likely when I do it won't look anything like it does now

Nelson;   I might have a bad definition of dutch aquarium, but itsnt that were you have a TON of plants and only a few fish because you want the plants to be the main point in the aquarium ?

I dont see any live plants in your tank at all.  ? or are they what you will be adding ?

yellowtang

Very nice looking tank..........
did you by any chance buy it at Super pet in Kanata?
would certainly make a beautiful marine tank.
I was looking at one of those not too long ago....but is too rich for my blood.
LOL.......Nice though

I believe it's Deutsch. Not Dutch... Deutsch being the German word for German. ;)

Actually everything I read on the subject refers to the system as the Dutch Aquarium System

I'm also holding off on live plants as I understand they're somewhat hard to maintain in a brackish tank.  I'm going to concentrate on establishing a healthy environment for now.

I bought the tank from Jeremy who obtained it from a hobbyist who unfortunately passed away.  Basically the same tank (without the built-in filtration system) sells for $1200 + at SP Barhaven but I fortunately picked it up for a small fraction of that cost.  One of those right place at the right time situations

There's a very similar one at Kanata (previously used by the store) for $450 I believe.  It also comes with a fluval canister.

Java fern and Vallisneria took to .005 salinity without any major setback. Its the other seven or so types I have tried that make a mess. Actualy the Java moss is ok too, It's browned about 30% but did not cast leaves all over the place like Hornwort, bacopa and Egaria did. If your going to use Java fern or moss dont wait too long since it is best attached to your rocks and driftwood, rather than planted in the substrate.

What % sea water are you going for? Do you have a brackish biotype in mind?

Thanks, and yes I'm thinking of the mongrove/rock type of environment but haven't really made up my mind.  I'm focusing on stable water parameters for now.  Won't likely go with live plants, but I've said that before in my freshwater tanks and now they're all planted :)
