Hello everyone.  New to the fish scene.  I was looking for advice on renovating a tank.  I need to temporarily relocate the fish while I redo the layout.  Can I store them in my 5 gal water bucket or will this cause undo stress?  I try to keep the fish in my tanks separate so I do not want to place them in the other tanks and I do not have a quarantine tank yet.  The fish are approx 12 second generation guppies and 5 black tetras.

I'd say go with the bucket.  Just put them in a dark space, keep some sort of aeration going, and put something over the top so that none jump out.  You should be fine.

Troy

You could try a Rubbermaid container they are larger and can hold more water; just as cheep as a bucket and you could put your filter on it.

Welcome aboard smallfry to the hobby of fishkeeping!!!as for your temporary fish storing question.

Both Squeeker and troys answer will do, as long as you can manage some type of airation or a filter to the water should hold you off okay.

And always try to accommadate the fishes water temperature as well this is also helpful in elimination shock or stress towards the fish.
