Having a frustrating problem with signing on using my notebook.  I've been working with Marc on the problem and I think he's getting as frustrated as I am.

When I log on it takes me to a page that indicates my name and profile, and not the page we usually see when I log in - the one that says welcome etc.  I don't see any indication on any page that I'm either logged in or not - other than the Bulletin Board page, and that always says that I'm not logged in.  Refreshing does make any difference.

Marc has reset my password, but that didn't help.  I've totally cleaned out my cache, cookies and temp folder and that didn't help either.  Actually it is when I did that clean up the first time that I began having problems.

I'm on a network at home and don't have any problems with the other computers.

Can anyone help please, thanks.

I had a problem logging in due to restrictions which I "accidentally"    activated on zonealarm.  I had to uninstall zonealarm and everything is working fine.  Do you have a firewall or something similar?
Thank goodness Marc is patient.

Hi Julie, yes I have a firewall through my wireless router.  Haven't done anything that I'm aware of to cause the problem..other than deleting cookies etc but I do that regularly without problems.  I was just speaking to BigDaddy and he's going to try to solve my problem.

Could you please tell me what browser you are using? Do you have the same problem if you use IE or Firefox?

I would suspect a setting in your internet options in IE that may have been accidently changed.

Need to know what browser before we get down to the root cause.

Cheers.

BigDaddy

I checked all his IE settings, and it seems okay.  It is saving cookies properly.

Has to be something specific to the laptop... on his desktop all is fine.

from the run prompt try typing in ipconfig /flushdns or netsh ip int reset resetlog.txt. Also trying using another browser like firefox http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ . Also when you delete files ensure you put a checkmark into delete all offline content within internet options. Have you attempted going into security in internet options and making ovas.ca a trusted site? Does the problem happen when you use other ports on the router? Have you attempted to make a new user in windows to try? it could be a problem with your user profile.

give those a try and let me know the outcome i should be able to give your more suggestions after that.

I really appreciate your advice hummer and now wish I hadn't been so hasty in bringing the notebook to BestBuy for a solution.  Hopefully I'll get it back tomorrow night and I'll post their findings.  Couldn't wait any longer, really enjoy OVAS on-line and surfing generally while lying in the sack.

If it was a fix that you suggested you owe me $40+ for not jumping in earlier

Thanks again

well in the future if someone has an issue with a computer. pm me and i'll see if i can send you some suggestions back. I've been working at a call centre supporting windows and other applciations for a year now. So i should be able to give out some FREE suggestions. :)

Hope they get to the bottom of it for you.......

Marc & BigDaddy:  I just got my computer back from BestBuy last night. They had quite a time fixing my log-on problem but they finally did. They said it was a cookie problem. Don't really understand but he said something about the main page and the forum page are separate and the cookie was not "transferring" - whatever that means.

Aiglos

It means they didn't know what they did.. but it ended up working.

Seriously....

Julie

Interesting about the cookies.  When I had the problem with zonealarm, I was able to log into the forum but not my photo gallery which is accessible from the front page.
