Hi all,

I have a pair of goldfish (Shubunkins I think) about (5 inches), they are in a pond right now. but I will be bringing them inside for the winder 25gl tank.

I'm just wondering what kind of fish are compatible with this setup. I wnat colurful fish to complement the Goldies. Also what kind of plants.

any ideas. If anyone has any fish/plants to sell to me that will be good for this setup let me know.

Don't bother putting plants in a goldfish tank.  They will make quick work of them.  My kids goldfish ate Java fern... I didn't think anything would eat java fern... but I was wrong.

With two goldfish that size you're pretty much already maxed out in a 25 gallon tank. I personally wouldn't add anything else...

And when dealing with goldfish your options for tank mates are usually more goldfish. There are weather and/or dojo loaches (basically the same thing) which can be added as a type of bottom feeder. And most plecos would probably do alright in the cooler waters... But anything small enough to fit into your goldfish's mouthes will be eaten.

As for plants to go in with them... I've seen people (including my mother) have success with anubias and different echinodorus plants.

In my smaller goldfish tank I had a 5" spotted dojo with little trouble... he was magnificent until he jumped out of the tank one night :'(.   My large ryukin used to pick on the dojo so be sure to give it a narrow small cave to call home.

I wouldn't recommend a pleco in a tank that size as yor fish are already quite large and will be in the pleco's personal space regularely. This can be stressful for the pleco who will most likely respond with a less than desirable attack response.  (That is true even if it is smallm they will stik on and rip off scales).  I would get some kind of snail in place of a pleco to help clean the tank.

25gal is a little small for those fish, I would definately give them some time to get used to their new, smaller enviroment.

Good luck,
SAM

Believe it or not.
I got a 20g tank with 1 black moore,3 fantail and a large red cap goldfish.the tank is too small for them so it seems.
But I got a large angelfish which is the only survivor out of 6
I bought over a year ago who lives with the goldfish.
they seem to live in harmony and I'am afraid the angel will die If I remove him from the tank.
Moral of the story..just when you think fish are not compatable with one another........at the end they're.
LOL.

As was said before your tank may be full already but in my 60g tank with 3 large goldfish I also keep some white cloud mountain minnows and some platies.  Both these types of fish will do well in the cool waters that goldfish prefer.

hi
just a quick note goldfish need a min. of 10 gallons per fish.  i have java moss java fern and anubis with my oranda`s they don`t touch the plants at all.  I have heard that onion plants can survive goldfish.

Hope this helps
