I was wondering what is the best way to attach the backing to the tank so that it is not all wavy?

Thanks,

Adam

BigDaddy

I cut mine so it fits INSIDE the trim... and then tape it down.

Vaseline?   How's that work?  Where do you put it??

Raven

smear it on the bckiing on the side you want facing into the tank. stick it on the back of the tnk and remove bubles by sliding a book really hard sideways until no bubles remain.

Thank you, I thought this was just winding up the new guy but  the vaseline thing is fantastic!

There was just one problem...

Picture if you will:  My tank is already filled with water so I had to do this where it stood.  I have a metal stand and it is diagonally placed in the corner of the room, which leaves a nice place for wires, tubes and pumps.  It also leaves a place for me to sit behind the tank to reapply the backing.

I was sitting in the corner, behind the tank with vaseline all over my hand, paper towel in the other and a book when my wife came in.    Glad it wasn't one of her romance novels.

LOL! That's sitcom-worthy!

If you don't  have any Vaseline on hand, try spraying the backing with a fine mist of water and then using the aforementioned heavy book to remove any bubbles; the water will adhere the backing to the tank and it will not fall off.

I thought that any petroleum product near fish was a no no . Or is vaseline OK .

CdnRednek

We used vaseline to attach backings on two of our tanks.  It worked great and hasn't harmed our fish in any way.  I would imagine that as long as you're careful, there's no reason why the fish should come into contact with it at all.

Eheim filters come with vaseline to lubricate the rubber o-rings so vaseline must be safe in small quantities.
