I have a 55 Gallon tank. I want to start an aquarium. I do not want a planted tank however I do have 3 pieces of driftwood to use if need be. I want something that is easy maintenance and would not have to do much water changed. Can people give me a stocking suggestion/ideas.

This question is not for me but my cousin and i am asking on his behalf. Also what does fisher price have to do with the aquarium world? Was not very funny. So does anyone have a stocking suggestion.

I think these would work out really well for your "cousin".

You're right it's not funny.   It's not funny that every few months you pop back up asking for advice after killing of more fish and plants.  I'm supposed to be super serious as a moderator and a member of the exec, but there comes a point where people refuse to help people that ask for advice and then turn around and do the opposite of what people have advised them to do.

I'm sitting here thinking about that beautiful o.b. ahli I sold you, against my better judgment, and I'm praying you, or your "cousin", sold it before it died.

None of my fish are dead. Havent had a fish die in a long time. Your ob ahli was in good condition. I sold it to big als when i gave some of my african cichlids to another cousin and the rest to big als for store credit. I still have my 55 gallon tank with 4 angelfish, 4 german blue rams, 6 albino cory catfish, 16 cardinal.and black neon tetras and 4 bushy nose plecos. Been months and nothing has died including my plants.

How about you post pics of your 55g setup, then maybe you will get some suggestions.

There is no real easy tank.  You can go with very low stock level to reduce water changes.  Or you can have lots of plants to reduce water changes.  Control your lighting to help control algae.

The best tanks take some work and lots of time and patience.

In this hobby, you get out of it what you put into it.

I am new to this forum but I can guarantee you there are plenty of people who know what they are talking about when they give advice

Here are the pictures. I am thinking of a 55 gallon with Silver Dollars, Oscar, Convict Cichlid, Bala Sharks, etc.
I will be buying them when they are young so therefore I would have them fit for a couple of years in a 55 gallon.

Masoud, I really hope you are joking about that stocking suggestion.

I just googled and youtubed 55 gallon suggestions and that is what i got. 5 silver dollars, 1 oscar, 1 convict

The "I have a tank and need to fill it with something" approach usually doesn't work out to well in the end. I find setting up a tank works best with an idea in mind. I suggest you search this site and the web for inspirations, find out what you like, and go from there. Possibilities are endless; you are only limited by tank size and dimensions. Good luck!

a single Oscar in a 55 is pushing it.  Bala sharks are schooling fish and no way you would want 3 full grown bala sharks in a 55.  Your stocking ideas would require something like a 180

masoud100

When you say one oscar is max in a 55 gallon i hope you are only talking about a fully grown oscar that takes many years to reach. I aint that much a beginner to believe that. I am talking about small sizes the ones they sell in stores. For the oscars, bala sharks and silver dollars to reach a big soze will take a long time. Like i am saying more than 3-4 years. I do not plan to keep all in a 55 fully grown. I just need compatability and what will fit a 55 gallon for atleast 2 yrs.

You mean your cousin "ain't that much of a beginner to believe that",  right?

Seriously, I don't know if it's old age, or if I just have gotten to the point where I don't give anymore , but I just wish you would listen to people and give up on this hobby.   You've been killing plants and fish for over a year and every few months you come back again to ask for stocking advice and refuse to listen to any advice people give you so just stop asking us and do whatever you see on YouTube.

PLEASE.

Seriously, I don't know if it's old age, or if I just have gotten to the point where I don't give anymore f**ks, but I just wish you would listen to people and give up on this hobby.   You've been killing plants and fish for over a year and every few months you come back again to ask for stocking advice and refuse to listen to any advice people give you so just stop asking us and do whatever you see on YouTube.

With my eyes closed and a half ass effort in keeping fish I can do a better job than you could ever think of. How do stores who keep 15 Oscars in a tank no bigger than 15 gallon survive? How about the people who continue to update videos with a 55 gallon stocking list of Oscar, convict, and silver dollars manage. I do not plan to keep fish for 10 years neither do I seem to have the love of romeo and julliet with my fish like you.

Check my gallery of how I keep my plants and fish alive, happy, etc.

I had a stocking list 4 angelfish, 20 tetras, 4 blue rams, 4 BN Plecos, Shrimps, 2 SAE, 8 Albino Cories, Red Tail Black Shark for months. Never a problem. Never a death. Only pure growth from plants to fish. my BN Plecos have reached full size, same with my SAE, Tetras, Corries.

I think you need the advice. I come to visit this site to learn, but to tell you the truth google search and youtube give me better results. Even the fish store employees give me better results. Telling my Goldfish and convicts can go together which might be a big No NO for you. But one of my neighbours has more than 20 Oscars, a Red Tail Black Shark, 5 Guppies, and 2 Goldfish in a 29 gallon tank for more than 1.5 years.
