at the last Executive meeting it was noted that the forum is getting a lot of traffic lately.   and as I was just cleaning out the Classified forum (deleting the Sold please delete threads).   I was thinking

on Page 8 the post at the very bottom is June 23 2005

Is June 23 2005 - September 21 2005 - which is 3 months - is that a reasonable time to expect something to be bought or sold?

as a way to serve space I was wondering if its worthwhile to limit the classifed posts to 1 month.  and either archive or trash older posts.

Thoughts?

...the same thing can be said for the Lounge, anything in here after a month could be archived or just trashed

Generally after 2-3 days you get a sense whether your article/fish will sell at the posted price.  A seller may want to adjust the advertised price or add an insentive.  Another 2-3 days for the edited thread.  If it doesn't sell after 7 days, it likely won't.  In my opinion 30 days is more than adequate (14 makes sense to me)then it should be archived. The Classified Ads archive could be purged every 6 months.

I agree.

I agree totally 30 days is plenty and should someone respond to an older post that was sold and not deleted your server is getting pm traffic as well.

A question and a sugestion Marc...how will you now when a post is the last post?  Wouldn't it be less complicated if posts are deleted 30 days after the initial posting?

mseguin

Thats what I was thinking. Is there any way to make it 30 days, as long as there have been no new posts within a week? Can the software handle that?

Marc

The software deletes a number of days after the last reply.  Once the feature it turned on and the number of days entered the rest is done automatically.  It doesn't provide for any other way of doing it and I think it's a satisfactory way.

Marc

If it's after the last reply, why not make it 14 days? Either way works for me.

damarech

I vote for the 30 day cut off

when older stuff goes on the page 2 noone ever goes there anyways so what dif does it make?perhaps put in a max number of older stuff pages and when stuff gets to the end of the last page it gets deleted. perhaps keeping 3-4 pages of older stuff?im no expert so dont know if this could work. but it seems logical

I would shorten the Aquatic Discussions too if some of the more popular topics could be added to the FAQ (like silicone, lighting, plants, water chemistry...)

At this time I have no intention of removing any posts from the Aquatic Discussions forum but it's true that it would be nice to add more to the FAQ.  To add stuff to the FAQ someone has to post find relevation information and write it up as an article then it can be posted and linked to from the FAQ.  Unfortunately I usually don't have the time to do this so if anyone (it could be many) would like to write some articles and post them (see "Submit Article" on the website's main page that would be great.

do you need an article for anything in particular?i could always do an article about kribs.i could post pics of parents breeding and raising fry. just a suggestion

Art and Marc..  Great Idea to clean up the posts !... However, sometimes I have looked back at old posts (3 months) about something someone said that I found very interesting ,..and made use of it.....
I guess from now on,.. if I read a post thats has good info,... I should record it on a floppy for my own future referance ......(creating my own library )       Many thanks ...John P
