Anyone have much experience with these guys? It's been eons since I've owned any...I have two right now...both are in different tanks as one is 1/4th the size of the other, not sure how they would get along!!

Also from some reading... Is it true that Heros efasciatus is what we find in petstores and they are a hybrid fish?

I want to breed some Severums for the BAP program...but I need Heros severus instead of efasciatus... so how does one tell the difference?!

It's true that the severums found in most LFS are Heros Efasciatus, the true Heros Severus is pretty rare and expensive. You likely have a pure strain of Efasciatus if you have some, however it is possible to hybridize them theoretically. They are heavily line bred though, hence the colour variants.

Main difference betweem the two species if that the Severus is a mouthbrooder and the Efasciatus is a substrate spawner. Soooo if they're laying eggs theyre efascatus!

My pair lays eggs quite frequently... haven't been able to save the fry from the other severums so far, but hopefully I'll get a chance to someday.
