How much salt can live plants tolerate:  i.e. crypt, vallisneria

Thanks,
Julie

BigDaddy

How much salt are we talking about?

Julie

1 Tbsp per 10 gallons

I don't think you'll have much trouble at that amount Julie. I am only learning about aquatic plants myself at this point. But I can tell you that I have Vallisneria surviving quite well in my brackish water tank. I change the salt between 1 Tbsp and 2 Tbsp per gallon. I have read about Crypts being ok in mild brackish conditions but no exp to go on there. I also have Java Fern and Java moss doing quite well. The Bacopa is not so great and the Hornwort all dies except for one small piece that has all of a sudden grown 6 in the past two weeks.

BTW just for comparisons sake 2tbs/g =1.005  SG or 25% seawater. So 1tbs/10g is very mild indeed :)
