OK folks, I am hopeless.  ;D

I received my order from aqmagic.com this afternoon and have no idea what to do now. LOL.

I ordered:

Pellia Monosolenium tenerum
Weeping Moss
Taiwan Moss
Star Moss
Flame moss
Round Pellia Süßwassertang
Plagiomnium Trichomanes
Plagiomnium affine
Fissidens splachnobryoides

I messed around with my flame moss, Taiwan moss, and plagiomnium affine. Have no idea what to do with the rest.

Any advice would be welcome (and by that I mean I need the "version for Dummies")!

Thanks all!

Good day,

That is quite the selection of plants  :), must say there is a little jealously on this end  :-[ lol. Been having a hard time getting my hands on Taiwan Moss.
I would do a little research on the plants and see what kind of conditions are best for them, and what people normally use that type of plant for (fore ground, back ground, carpet effects). I personally do what ever I like but its always nice to know what other people are doing, often leads to inspiration for me.
I found this link the other day, now its far from perfect but it has good info on allot of different species of plant.

Did you have a plan for all these wonderful plants, a vision for your tank?
Also how was your experience with aqmagic.com ?

Lots of good info on where/how to plant on a plant specific basis can be found here:

I haz reef tanks.

Woot  :D  Nice selection !

Were your plants in good shape when you opened the box ?  I've been thinking of ordering from this place for some time now, just can't make up my mind on what I want or need  ;D

The links that Morrom and Stussi posted are a very good place to start.  You can also take a look at APC's PlantFinder if you can't find what you're looking for on these sites.

Good luck, keep us posted on your progress !

Oh, and let us see some pictures 8)

Thanks folks!

Everything that isn't tied down is floating and I have some research to do. I wasn't sure how they would be packaged and I am not really sure how to handle the little bits and pieces. Not so much worried about the conditions, tank placement etc. as I did look into that before I placed my order. It's more about how I should handle these teeny bits of pellia and how to affix them to whatever.

The plants seem to be in decent shape. There is some of the star moss that doesn't look so hot and I will have to see if it comes back, but the plants were generous in quantity and seem to have travelled quite well. They have had great communication so we will see how hardy they are all in my novice hands.

Trevor, I am not sure how much Taiwan moss you would need to start, but I have a little bit here still. How about you take what I have left and if I kill mine I get first dibs on your trimmings? :)

Thanks folks... Off to do some more research! I can't believe I haven't turned up a "how to" YouTube video on what to do with these bits and pieces. LOL.

Nice selection of plants!!  I'm jealous as well :)  If you do a great job at growing the plants, I'm very sure you'll get a number of die hard plant people who will happily tanke some clippings off your hands!!  Ahem...like me  ;)

Go get yourself some clear fishing line.  That's what you can use to wrap around the log, or whatever you decide to attach these amazing plants to.  It can tie tightly and because it's clear, it's not going to be very noticeable in the tank.

I had several species of Moss in my 29 gallon tank.  I made the mistake of letting them all grow together (lack of time in pruning) and I ended up with a HUGE ball of mixed up plants.  I can't tell what's what any more except for the Christmas Moss and the Flame Moss.  Ugh.  So stay on top of your pruning.  I'm not hapy with my giant clump of who-knows-what.

Post pics when you've planted!

I'm no expert, but you might try a type of netting affixed to rock.
Something like what onions are packaged in for moss that is grown
under the water.

One tip I would offer is to strive to keep the mosses segregated.  I've had mosses grow into each other before, and it is then difficult to keep separate strains without sorting strand by strand (not fun), and even then you're likely to have mixed mosses (they kind of look alike and thus easily confused during sorting).   IE keep one moss on one wood, another on another wood, one on the left/center/right of tank, etc.

BTW, you should have a GORGEOUS  moss / shrimp tank!

Yes, good point.  I use hair nets (3 for 1$ at the dollar store) to attach my moss, HC and other small plants to the hardscape.  It's hardly visible from a start, and disappears quickly once the plants start to grow.
